The goals of NCE are:

 

a. Speed of Referal

The centre can be a central source of referral from the National Health Network thereby providing quicker access to evalution and optimum care.

 

b. Speed of Diagnosis

The diagnostic and e-health facilities of the NCE will provide speedier diagnosis for patients.

 

c. Remote Assistance

Through its use of e-health and as a part of the HSE Community based network the NCE will provide remote assistance.

 

d. Reduced Testing

The facilities of the NCE will ensure a reduction in duplicate testing for patients e.g. MRI, scans, EEG, etc.

 

e. Provide Education

Through the facilities available in the NCE patients and their families will receive proper educational, vocational and life-style education.

 

f. Ease of Discharge

As a result of its diagnostic and referral services the NCE will be able to discharge patients in a controlled manner.

 

g. Post Discharge Support

The patient care management will provide post discharge supprot in all areas through its outpatient facilities, theraupetic services, integration in the national network and association with Brainwave the Epilepsy Charity.

 

h. Learning Disability

The NCE will also provide assessment for the one third of individuals with co-existing epilepsy and learning disability.

 

i. Respite Function

The NCE will offer respite facilities to families of patients with complex and intractable epilepsy.
